Y5 Lions – 28 Jan 2012

Written January 28th, 2012

The Lions only had 5 players.  With some great batting from both Lukas and Angus, they managed to score a respectable 77 runs with the loss of only three wickets.  With 5 players, four bowled 5 overs with the 5th player bowling 4.  They all bowled amazingly well needing only a final wicket to take the game, but unfortunately, it remained elusive and fatigue saw some leg-side bowling which enabled Brooklyn to secure the win in the second to last over.  A great game in which the boys showed some amazing spirit.

A hard game against a good opponent.  We bowled first and restricted them to 52/5 with Angus McConchie taking 3-5 off 4 overs.  Batting, we scored 61/3 with a nail-biting finish as we needed 2 runs off the last two overs and the second to last over was a maiden.  Still needing two off the last over, Lukas Halikias saw us home with two 4s off the last two balls, and in general he batted wonderfully scoring 23 not out.  He was the man of the match, having also taken 1-4 off 4 overs.

The Lion's had a first up win.  Bowling first against the Onslow Mandalay's the boys restricted them to 5 for 45 (see below a reason for the low score).  Batting, they comfortably chased that score down being 5 for 65 at the end.

Milo Crispin was player of the day effecting 2 runs as keeper and a caught and bowled.

One other thing – we played with a softball as other than the markings at either end, the Council hadn't mown a pitch, so the grass was a couple of inches high.  Needless to say, the ball didn't bounce much!

Oh, and if you come across the Mandalay's, I can recommend them and their coach as being friendly and relaxed about how the game was played.  Made for an enjoyable morning, topped off with the win.
